Top earner pension change at Pembrokeshire County Council
"At a WJEC course in London for GCSE history last month, teachers were told by Paul Evans, one of the chief examiners of the course, that the compulsory question for section A of the exam “goes through a cycle”. “This coming summer, and there’s a slide on this later on, it’s going to be the middle bit: 'Life in Germany 1933-39’ or for America, it will be 'Rise and Fall of the American Economy’ … So if you know what the compulsory section is you know you’ve got to teach that.” When a teacher pointed out that they had been told to teach the entire syllabus, choice, as opposed to us saying 'Right you’ve got to teach everything’. “We’re cheating, we’re telling you the cycle.”" (Daily Telegraph)
Changes to the way Pembrokeshire County Council pays its top earners’ pension contributions seem to fly in the face of the Government’s ‘we’re all in this together’ message, financial experts have said. The Western Telegraph has learned that at a private meeting of the Senior Staff Committee in September 2011, members agreed that high earners will be given the option of “receiving the equivalent of the employer’s contribution so that they make their own alternative arrangements for saving for retirement”.

P.C.C. CCTV camera directly above ladies toilets in Goodwick - but no money for yob CCTV at the asylum
“I was sent an email from concerned constituents about the positioning of the CCTV camera in the public toilets in Goodwick. They were concerned about the intrusion of personal privacy and about child safety as a result of the camera being positioned above a cubicle.” “I too was surprised at the photographs which they had attached which showed that the camera appeared to be able to view directly into a cubicle instead of just in the communal area. “

The wrecking crew of the airborne 44th division of OverseersR'us parachuted in to Main Street: "The Society has written to Pembrokeshire County Council expressing its profound objection to the shop front advertisements on the newly opened USA Fried Chicken Takeaway in Fishguard Square. It was pointed out that the advertisements are not well designed or appropriate to the building and do not enhance the appearance of the building and its surroundings. It was also noted that planning policy states that in conservation areas ‘corporate image’ designs will be resisted. The Society believes that these garish advertisements are particularly offensive as the building is surrounded by some of the most important historic, listed buildings in the centre of the Fishguard. The letter concluded by asking the Council to take immediate action to require the business concerned to provide more appropriate advertisement"

"Morality is contraband in war"
Pembrokeshire County Council’s scrutiny system has been labelled a ‘self-congratulatory tea party’ following last week’s scathing reports. The issue of how officers shared information with councillors and the negative impact that had on members’ decision making were among criticisms highlighted. (Western Telegraph)
In a letter to the Western Telegraph, Mr Howells said: “In the face of such a report, anyone with a shred of moral integrity would have immediately resigned. The events described happened on the watch of the chief executive and the leader of the council. They carry the ultimate responsibility and only their resignations will adequately recognise that they accept that responsibility.” (W. T.)
